A patent grant is a patent application approved by a local or regional patent office. If the patent is granted, then the inventor or firm will get the right to restrict others from using, making, selling, and importing the invention in the respective region or country without the inventor’s permission.
The time it takes for a patent to be granted after the application is submitted to a patent office can vary across jurisdictions. Usually, three to four years is typical in most jurisdictions, however, during this time the inventor has the patent rights as their work is conferred 'patent pending' status.
